“Almighty Father, Master and Lord, King of all kings and Redeemer, Wonderful Counselor, Comforter, Friend, Savior and Source of our life without end.”
Singing all of these names with a lovely melody makes me
happy. Our Lord and God is “Almighty.” He is “Master” and “Lord.”
He is “King of all kings” and “Redeemer.” The Holy Spirit is “Wonderful
Counselor,” “Comforter,” and “Friend.” How wonderful our “Savior”
is. He is the “Source of our life.”
Singing these names together is a great time of personal
worship.
These names remind us of Isaiah 9:6: “For to us a child
is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his
shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince
of Peace.”
Our God is worthy of worship. He is worthy of praise. As the
chorus goes, He is worthy of honor and glory, reverence, love and devotion.
On Biblestudytools.com, Matthew Henry writes about the name “Wonderful”: “Justly is He called Wonderful, for He is both God and man. His love is the wonder of angels and glorified saints; in His birth, life, death, resurrection, and ascension, He was wonderful. A constant series of wonders attended Him, and without controversy, great was the mystery of godliness concerning Him."
John Barnett tells us a little more about the Hebrew
word used for “Wonderful” in this passage:
“The Hebrew word pala [‘Wonderful’] indicates
‘something uncommon or out of the ordinary.’ It reflects ‘a phenomenon lying
outside the realm of human explanation; that which is separated from the normal
course of events; something that cannot be explained.’ And that is our Almighty
and inexplicable Jesus!
If you haven’t heard this hymn sung, look it up on YouTube. There’s
a number of videos from different persons and choirs. It’s a “glad song”
for us to sing as the first verse says:
“Worthy of worship worthy of
praise, Worthy of honor and glory;
Worthy of all the glad songs
we can sing, Worthy of all of the off’rings we bring.”
By His Grace . . .
